Short Description

This invention is a modular bubble generator assembly capable of generating micro-sized bubbles more efficiently than current models. The microbubble generator (also known as a sparger) is comprised of multiple hexagon- shaped elements that combine in a honeycomb-like assembly for uniform aeration over the entire cross section. The assembly can be scaled up easily by simply adding more units.

Each unit is comprised of an outer body which houses an inner lumen contoured to shape a Venturi tube, with a narrow throat section. A specialty gas-injecting member introduces gas into the throat section. There, the gas combines with liquid flowing through the lumen and forms microbubbles. This method varies greatly from that of traditional spargers which pressurize gas to push it through a network of pores in ceramic or other similar material. This device needs only a fraction of the pressure/pump requirements of a conventional sparger of similar volumetric output. Lower pressure requirements lessen the risk of cavitation damage to the device compared to traditional spargers, and also causes this device to use less energy.
